Long Point Bay
From the fertile tobacco belt around Delhi, Simcoe, and  Tillsonburg across the Haldimand Clay Plain toward the Grand River  valley, this becalmed stretch of the Lake Erie shoreline is only broken  by the graceful sweep of Long Point, where hundreds of birds stop during  their spring migrations. This area has much to offer, from car racing  to genealogy, bird-watching to family-fishing festivals. The new center  of these agriculturally productive plains, New Norfolk, came into  existence on January 1, 2001, and is made up of the former townships of  Norfolk and Delhi, and the town of Simcoe.
Cayuga [A7] Situated on the banks of the historic Grand River,  between Caledonia and Port Maitland, Cayuga has a split personality. On  one hand it is known as "The Auto Racing Capital of Canada" because of  Dragway Park and Cayuga International Speedway located just outside  town, where you can see Championship CASCAR stock-car racing in all its  high-octane glory. For the more historically inclined, the  Haldimand-Norfolk Museum and Archives and aristocratic Ruthven Park  National Historic Site explore the ties Cayuga has with Native history.  Ruthven Park is a 650-hectare estate with a 32-room Classic Greek  Revival mansion built in 1845 by David Thompson of the Grand River  Navigation Company and home to five generations of his family. It can be  viewed on guided tours.
Long Point Provincial Park [E3] Recognized as a biosphere  reserve by the United Nations, this 32 km peninsula of beaches, dunes,  marshes, and wetlands is the habitat of hundreds of migrating birds, 90  species of rare plants, and numerous fish, reptiles and amphibians.  Except for the park at the base of the point, much of the point is only  open to the general public on guided tours. Ц North of the park, past  Port Rowan is Backus Heritage Village, a superb collection of 20  historical buildings, including the Backhouse Mill (1798), the  longest-running water-powered grist mill in the province.
Port Dover [C5]
Located on Lake Erie's north shore, the small but dynamic town  of Port Dover is a bustling summer place with a calendar full of  special events and a great summer theater. The Dover Rover, a  tractor-pulled passenger train, is a fun way to explore the town and  learn the fascinating history. Port Dover is famous for the best perch  and pickerel dinners in the area.
Simcoe [B4] Simcoe is dead center of a rich agricultural area  noted for tobacco, vegetables, mushrooms, fruits, and ginseng. The town  is also the commercial center for the summer-cottage communities along  Lake Erie's north shore. Simcoe is a gracious place with many stately  old homes, maple tree-lined streets, and beautiful parks. The Lynnwood  Arts Centre, once the home of Simcoe's first postmaster, Duncan  Campbell, is an 1851 Greek Revival home that houses exhibitions and  permanent fine art, surrounded by a sculpture garden and rare Carolinian  trees. In December, folks from the region flock to see 60 illuminated  scenes billed as the Christmas Panorama.
Tillsonburg [B1] Set in fertile tobacco country, this town has  one of the widest main streets in Ontario, aptly named Broadway. Worth a  visit in the downtown area is the Station Arts Centre, housed in two  historic railway stations joined together. The Tillsonburg  Museum/Annandale House features impeccably furnished 1880s period rooms,  hand-painted ceilings, original woodwork, and stained and painted  glass. Doll collectors will want to visit Dolls in Toyland, a museum  that displays over 1,000 dolls from 1860 to the present.
