Laurentians
Quebec's ultimate vacation destination, the Laurentians spread  over 22,000 km2, from Riviere des Mille-lles in the south, past  Mont-Laurier in the north, and from the Outaouais in the west, to the  Lanaudiere region in the east. The area is marked by contrast and  therefore offers something for every taste: mountains and plains,  valleys and hills, urban scenes and pastoral retreats, gourmet cuisine  in charming country inns, home-cooked meals in sugar shacks, or  pick-your-own produce. Sports in the Laurentians similarly come in all  shapes and sizes: conquer snow-covered summits on skis or snowboards,  plunge down wild water-slides, go horseback riding or mountain  climbing-the choice is up to you. Wildlife is bountiful in the  Laurentians, so remember to bring your camera.
Hawkesbury [D2]
Founded in 1813 just outside the nearby Hamilton Mills  sawmill, Hawkesbury's Main Street was once a bustling center of commerce  and industry, sporting a buggy manufacturer, garment factory, forge,  furriers, and bootmakers. Today, at least six Main Street buildings  retain their original appearance.
Morin Heights [A5]
A town celebrated by skiers and snowboarders for its famous  slopes, Morin Heights also provides a fabulous setting for many other  outdoor winter activities, including skating, snowshoeing, and a 150 km  network of cross-country ski trails on the Aerobic Corridor, which in  summer doubles for cycling or hiking. Visitors can also take advantage  of the public beach with its adjoining children's playground.
Oka [E6] Just outside this friendly village lies the Oka  Monastery (Abbaye Cistercienne d'Oka), one of the oldest monasteries in  North America, where French Trappist monks settled in the early 1880s.  Oka is a popular summertime destination, thanks to Oka Park's long sandy  beach, campsites, and ecological pathways. Don't forget to sample the  superb local cheese.
Sainte-Adele [A6] One of the largest municipalities of the  region (pop. 9,440), Sainte-Adele draws residents and tourists alike for  its peaceful lakes, aquatic park, golf courses, downhill ski centers,  summer theaters, art galleries, concerts, festivals, fine dining,  bicycle trails, horseback riding centers, and hiking trails.
Saint-Eustache [D7-8]
On the shores of Lac des Deux-Montagnes and the Riviere des  Mille-lles, the city of Saint-Eustache magically blends city and country  living. Founded in 1739, it is celebrated for its architecture and  heritage. The church—situated on the battlefield of the Patriotes  Rebellion of 1837—is used today as a recording studio for the Montreal  Symphony Orchestra, and the seigneurial Globensky Manor houses an  historical museum that attracts thousands of visitors every year. Don't  miss Legare Mill, the oldest water-driven flour mill operating in  Canada.
Saint-Jerome [B6-7]
Founded in 1834, Saint-Jerome was the first settlement in the  Laurentians. Today, it's the industrial and retail business hub of the  region. For a review of the city's history through displays plus a  spectacular view of the river, take a short walk along the Riviere du  Nord, from the bridge on De Marti-gny street to the bridge on  Saint-Joseph street.
Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts [A5-6] A resort town cradled in the  mountains just 45 minutes from Montreal, Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts treats  thousands of vacationers from around the world to its charms every year.  With its lively theaters, bars, and dance clubs, main street is the  place to be at night. In winter, skiers flock to Mont Habitant and Mont  Saint-Sauveur, and with the arrival of summer, Saint-Sauveur's AquaPark  becomes the coolest place to beat the heat.
