Central P.E.I.
Rolling green hills, meandering red-clay heritage roads, and  brilliant blues of sea and sky denote a peaceful, inviting landscape  immortalized by author Lucy Maud Montgomery, who penned Anne of Green  Gobies. Anne's land lures visitors from around the world to pay homage  to the fictional red-haired orphan and her creator, and Montgomery's  past has been preserved at many venues, ranging from her birthplace to  her grave site.
The northern coast, dominated by Prince Edward Island National  Park, is a long string of white-sand beaches intersected by beautiful  bays. This region is a mecca for families, with a wide variety of  attractions and adventure parks. On the southern shore, the red-sand  beaches are gentler, the shallow water warmer. In between the coasts lie  a strong agricultural community with attractive farmscapes around every  turn, a perfect place for hiking and cycling past woodlands and fields.
Burlington [B5] The Woodleigh Replicas are large-scale  stone-and-concrete models of well-known British churches and castles,  such as the St-Martins-in-the-Fields and Dunvegan Castle. Some are big  enough to enter; the Tower of London displays reproductions of the  British crown jewels.
Cavendish [B6]  Originally built up around sites revered by  fans of Anne of Green Gobies, Cavendish offers many family attractions,  shops, and accommodations. A monument near the shore marks the spot  where the sailing ship Morco Polo, once the fastest in the world,  wrecked within sight of crowds gathered along the dunes in an 1883 gale;  just one of hundreds of ships whose hulls are buried in the offshore  sand. Confederation Bridge
[D4] One of the world's longest bridges, Confederation Bridge  is a 13 km engineering marvel that connects Borden-Carleton to mainland  New Brunswick, rising 60 m over the Northumberland Strait. The bridge  completes an odyssey of transportation that began with treacherous  crossings in open ice boats which often had to be dragged over ice  ridges on iron runners attached to both sides of the keel. The era of  the ice boats, and the ferries that replaced them, can be explored in a  museum in Gateway Village.
French River [A5] A tiny cemetery holds the remains of victims  of the 1851 Yankee Gale responsible for sinking hundreds of sailing  ships along the North Shore. Colonies of nesting cormorants and other  seabirds can be viewed from the Cape Tryon Lighthouse.ID In nearby Park  Corner, the Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush hosts many  Japanese couples who come to replicate the author's wedding in the front  parlor.
Mount Carmel [B2] The heart of the island's Acadian community,  Mount Carmel boasts a long-running French dinner theater where fine  traditional Acadian food, step dancing, and good humor rule.
Prince Edward Island National Park [B6-8]
Famous for its beaches, soaring dunes, and red cliffs. Rich in  nature trails, interpretive programs, and cultural landmarks. Green  Gables, the farm that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery, has been  meticulously restored to reflect life in the early 1900s.
Summerside [B3] Tree-lined streets and stately wooden homes  recall an era of prosperity built on shipbuilding and the silver-fox  breeding industry. Celtic heritage is waiting to be experienced at the  College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts, with a full schedule of  ceilidhs and concerts. Summerside is also the start of the scenic Lady  Slipper Drive, which winds its way around the western coast.
